Asif Iqbal – Tech Advocate, Engineer & Community Empowerment Leader from Dhaka’s Bihari Camp

Asif Iqbal is a self-taught software engineer, AI enthusiast, and grassroots tech educator from the marginalized Bihari community living in Dhaka’s Mirpur 10 relief camp. Born in 1987, Asif’s life has been shaped by systemic exclusion, statelessness, and the daily challenges of surviving in one of Bangladesh’s most neglected urban settlements. Despite these barriers, he has emerged as a powerful voice for justice, digital literacy, and mental well-being in his community.

With a professional background in software engineering, Asif brings a robust skill set that includes machine learning, deep learning, web development, blockchain, DevOps, and automation. He has hands-on experience building AI agents and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems—tools that combine the latest in artificial intelligence with practical, community-centered solutions.

Currently, Asif works as a mobile phone technician and informal tech educator, repairing devices and introducing the latest technological developments to his community. Through this role, he bridges the digital divide by helping underserved residents gain access to tools, apps, and online knowledge.

His long-term mission is to empower Bihari youth through technical education, open-source collaboration, and civic technology. He actively researches how emerging tech—especially AI and blockchain—can be applied to grassroots advocacy, financial transparency, and human rights monitoring.
